"Early Works vol. 1" is a new cd featuring compositions by Rolf Julius from 1979 to 1982, and is one of the most recent initiatives curated by e/static. Seven of the eight tracks included here are unissued and the parts from the Berlin Concert Series are of particular interest. These are sound installations which were set in ten unusual sites chosen by the artist himself in the German town where he lives and works: "Music for a Frozen Lake"; "Music for the Earth", "Morning Song", "Music for a Yellow Room", and "Music for Three Loudspeakers".
This a very precious document of the beginnings of a truly important artist who is one of the great masters in the field of artistic research that relates the visual to the sonic aspect. The cd also includes "Music for the Eyes" (1981), from the famous work with the same title (depicted on the cd's back cover), as well as "Music on Two High Poles" and "Music for a Pane of Glass".
This cd has been published recently by the Italian label Fringes (www.fringesrecordings.com).
